Diabetes Education Management, training and support for Early Learning Centres and schools

Diabetes Education

Tailored individual and group training provided by a Senior Credentialed Diabetes Nurse Educator SET Health guides you on how to better support children with Diabetes so that they can learn and fully participate in the classroom. We also take the time to ensure that all ELC and or school staff feel confident at the end of the session. We only take one booking a day so that if we attend a session where the staff need more help we have the opportunity to spend extra time with the staff that need more help.

The child’s Diabetes action plan and Risk Management Plan are essential documents that can sometimes be hard to understand and implement. SET Health will assist you in the comprehension of these and in the development of the Risk Management plan.

ELC staff need to be confident and competent. SET Health provides staff training that shall take away any anxiety associated with the condition. Sessions are run to cater for the specific child/children in your care. SET Health provides 100% in-house hands-on training.

We come to your facility, and supply all equipment and training materials with ongoing telephone support for the whole time the child is in your care. Areas covered include:

  • Understanding Type 1 Diabetes and how to read Action Plans.
  • Creating a comprehensive Risk Management Plan.
  • How to safely administer an Insulin, Glucagon emergency injection.
  • Operating and troubleshooting insulin pumps and continuous glucose monitoring sensors
  • Hyper/Hypo Management, and how to read blood glucose meter information.
  • Practice time (all equipment supplied).
  • Parents Q&A.
  • Optimisation and implementation of Management Plan.

We specialise in small group training and provide ongoing telephone or in person (if needed) to the school or ELC for the entire time that the child is in their care. This ensures personalised and adequate care for the child in need and provides assurance to the carer that our expertise and support is readily available.

Personal Development Points (PDP) are available for participants. All participants are individually assessed and a certificate of competency shall be provided upon completion of required training.

Resources are made for each center specific to the child in their care. Eg, if the child is on a pump, or on sensors, the resources we distribute to staff will cover relevant aspects of those devices. Every child’s diabetes is different, thus SET Health contextualises every training session specific to the individual child.

FAMILY EDUCATION
We also offer extra training for families if needed. For example some families have grandparents and other family members that also want to be trained. Jessica can privately train small family groups in their home.

NDIS REGISTERED
We are a registered NDIS provider and work closely with children in education who also have other conditions that impact their ability.

TRAINING FOR CARERS AND NDIS WORKERS
We also offer training for carers and or NDIS workers that need to be certified and competent in delivering insulin to patients or clients. Jessica is a qualified TAE and can give certificates of competency for employment and insurance purposes.

SET HEALTH IS THE ONLY TRAINING PROVIDER THAT CONDUCTS EDUCATION IN ELC AND SCHOOLS THIS WAY.
